Let’s go to the Salzkammergut!
The region owes its name to the extraction
of salt that has a tradition of more than a thousand years. The
heart of the Salzkammergut consists of the villages of Bad
Ischl, Hallstatt
and Bad Aussee.
Already the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph and his wife Sissi,
as well as German chancellor Helmut Kohl and artists such as Franz
List chose the region as their summer vacation spot.

Salt-mine Hallein
The salt-mine in Hallein
close to Salzburg is one of our country’s most exciting
tourist sites. For many centuries, people have been using it to
win salt, and the miners’ hard work becomes vivid during
the exciting tour along the underground salt lake.
.
Two long miners’ slides guarantee fun and a good time for
the old and the young. Furthermore, the tour includes a raft ride
on the underground salt lake, a rapid ride with the mining railroad
and the Celtic village at the top of the mountain. Come visit
the salt-mine!
The glacial caves in the Dachstein
The glacial caves in the Dachstein Massif are part of the
Alps’ most fascinating natural wonders. Take a look at the
magnificently lighted ice sculptures and domes in the glacial
cave Dachstein. The huge glacial cave holds 30.000 cubic metres
of ice! Highlights of the one-hour tour through the glacial cave
are the Gralsburg and the ice chapel. This is also the ideal day
for a contrast program by means of a ride with the cable car to
the summit of the Dachstein and for treating yourself to the magnificent
view of the snow-covered mountain tops around you!
